As part of the ongoing nationwide drive during the peak breeding season of hilsa, local administration, naval police, coast guard, and fisheries officials jointly conducted an anti-fishing operation in the Padma River within Louhajang Upazila of Munshiganj to seize and destroy illegal current nets on Thursday afternoon (October 8, 2026).

The operation under the "Mother Hilsa Conservation Campaign 2026" was spearheaded by Louhajang Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Executive Magistrate Farzana Bobby Mitu, alongside Assistant Commissioner (Land) Md. Erfanul Islam, naval police units, coast guard personnel, and Upazila Senior Fisheries Officer Md. Rezaul Islam.

Fisheries department officials noted that the 22-day nationwide restriction on catching, transporting, storing, purchasing, and marketing hilsa remains strictly enforced from October 8 to October 29 to safeguard breeding populations. Upazila Nirbahi Officer Farzana Bobby Mitu stated that although no active fishermen were apprehended during the sweep across the river channels, several illegal current nets were recovered, brought ashore, and publicly destroyed, while surveillance and rigorous river patrols will persist throughout the ban period.
