The sacked, sack-encased slit-throat body of 3.5-year-old Swaif Hossain was recovered by police in Damudya, Shariatpur, roughly six hours after he went missing.
Following the discovery, intense outrage swept through the area, resulting in locals setting fire to the home of the accused. Police subsequently detained a young man named Rasel Shikdar. The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon (October 3) in the West Adason area of Ward 1 under Sidhalkura union.
According to local sources and police, Swaif—the son of Selim Sardar and Shimuli—disappeared around 7:00 AM after playing outside his home. When family members failed to locate him, they informed the police, leading to a joint search by police and fire service personnel.
The child's body was eventually found stuffed in a sack in a ditch behind the homestead of neighbor Abu Alam Shikdar. Swaif's father, Selim Sardar, claimed that a minor verbal dispute between his mother and neighbor Abu Alam occurred on Friday evening, which he believes led to the horrific murder.
While the accused family members fled the scene, Shariatpur Additional Superintendent of Police (Gosairhat Circle) Shamsul Arefin confirmed that the body has been recovered, one suspect has been arrested, and an investigation is actively underway to bring all perpetrators to justice.
