Sugarcane cultivation and production across Chattogram have experienced steady growth over the past five years, with bumper yields reported along the fertile riverbanks and char lands of Chandanaish, Satkania, Boalkhali, Banshkhali, Rangunia, and Sandwip.

Green-and-gold sugarcane stalks are currently supplying wholesale markets, including the city's Kotwali-Firingee Bazar area, from where traders distribute the crop across the region.

According to data from the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) Chattogram District Office, sugarcane production rose from 19,067 metric tonnes across 366 hectares in 2021 to 25,092 metric tonnes across 440 hectares in 2026, with average yield increasing from 52 to 58 tonnes per hectare. DAE Chattogram Region Additional Director Mohammad Ali Jinnah and DAE Deputy Director Apru Marma noted that the nutrient-rich alluvial soils along the Sangu, Dalu, Karnaphuli, and Ichamati river basins provide ideal conditions for high productivity.

Farmers from key growing areas like Dohazari report strong financial returns, earning net profits between Tk 70,000 and Tk 100,000 per kani, further driving local agricultural expansion.
