Two young children passed away at Pabna General Hospital on Wednesday after being severely stung by a swarm of wasps in the Ataikula area under Santhia Upazila, Pabna.

The deceased were identified as Rohan Hossain (3), son of Nayan Hossain, and Arafat Hossain (4), son of Sujon Hossain. Both were residents of Goyeshbari village under Bhulbaria Union in Ataikula, Santhia.

Ataikula Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mojibor Rahman confirmed the incident, citing family members and local sources. According to reports, the two children were playing outdoors on Tuesday afternoon (September 29) when they spotted a wasp nest. While playing, they poked the nest with a jute stick, provoking the swarm, which attacked and stung them repeatedly.

Hearing their screams, family members rushed to the spot, rescued the children, and admitted them to Pabna General Hospital in critical condition. Despite receiving treatment, both children succumbed to their injuries around noon on Wednesday (September 30).

A pall of gloom has descended over the area following the tragic death of the two toddlers.
