Two businessmen have been fined a total of Tk 80,000 in separate drives for illegally hoarding and selling fertilizers without registration at Dublia Bazar under Sadullapur Union in Pabna Sadar Upazila. During the drives, a total of 381 sacks of fertilizer, including Urea, TSP, and DAP, were seized.
On Sunday (September 27) afternoon, one of the drives was led by Pabna Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Tamara Tasbiha and Sadar Upazila Agriculture Officer Jakirul Islam. Another drive was conducted by Mahmud Hasan Roni, Assistant Director of the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection, Pabna.
Pabna Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Tamara Tasbiha stated that the drive was conducted based on secret information that fertilizer traders at Dublia Bazar were selling fertilizers at prices higher than the government-set rates, hoarding fertilizers without registration, and attempting to create an artificial crisis. During the operation, Abu Bakar Biswas Enterprise was fined Tk 30,000 under the Fertilizer Management Act, 2006 for hoarding and selling fertilizers without registration. At the same time, 130 sacks of fertilizer stockpiled at the establishment were seized.
Mahmud Hasan Roni, Assistant Director of the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection, Pabna, stated that 251 sacks of various types of fertilizers illegally hoarded in the warehouse of another trader in the same market, Abdul Mannan, were seized. He was fined Tk 50,000 in this incident.
Upazila Agriculture Officer was entrusted with the responsibility of selling the fertilizer seized from Abu Bakar Biswas Enterprise at government rates and depositing the money into the government treasury. On the other hand, the fertilizer seized from Abdul Mannan has been instructed to be sold to farmers under the supervision of Sub-Assistant Agriculture Officer Shariful Islam.
Pabna Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Tamara Tasbiha said that such drives against selling fertilizer at prices higher than the government-fixed rates, illegal hoarding of fertilizer, and creating artificial crises will continue.
