Two children tragically drowned to death together in a pond in Chatmohar upazila of Pabna.

The incident took place on Saturday afternoon (September 19) in the Atlanga Dakshin Sengram area under Mulgram union of the upazila.

The deceased children are Huzaifa Rahman (7), son of Mojibor Rahman, and Mahfuz (6), son of Rubel Hossain, both residents of the village. The sudden and tragic death of the two children has cast a shadow of deep mourning across the area.

According to relatives, the neighbor children of the same age, Huzaifa and Mahfuz, went down to bathe in a pond belonging to an individual named Jonu Member at around 3:00 PM on Saturday. At one point while bathing, neither of them knew how to swim and both sank underwater.

When they did not return home for a long time, family members began searching for them. About two hours after they went missing, the bodies of the two children floated up in the water. They were quickly rescued and taken to the nearby Atgharia Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty physician declared both of them dead.

Confirming the truth of the incident, Chatmohar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Oliur Rahman stated that the drowning death of two children together is extremely painful and noted that parents need to be more vigilant.
