A tragic drowning incident took place in Nandail upazila of Mymensingh, resulting in the deaths of two young girls. The heartbreaking accident occurred on Thursday afternoon (October 1) in Songramkheli village under Sherpur Union.
The deceased were identified as Khadija Akter (4), daughter of Swapan Mia, and Maria Akter (3), daughter of his brother Ratan Mia. They were first cousins.
According to local and family sources, Khadija and Maria were playing together in the yard of their house at noon. At one point, unnoticed by family members, both children fell into a nearby pond and submerged. After a prolonged search when the children went missing, family members eventually recovered them from the pond.
They were immediately rushed to the Nandail Upazila Health Complex, where the attending physician declared both of them dead. The sudden demise of two young children from the same family has cast a heavy shadow of grief over Songramkheli village.
