Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md. Abdur Rahman paid a surprise visit to various orphanages and Hifzkhana facilities in Chandanaish Municipality, Chittagong. A humane Facebook status posted by him following the visit has sparked widespread discussion and attention.
On Tuesday night (October 6), he inspected several orphanages and Hifzkhana institutions across the municipality, assessing their overall operations and environment.
During the visit, he observed the children's living quarters, food quality, drinking water supply, and general cleanliness. He also verified the institutions' register books and daily food menus.
Following the inspection, a post accompanied by photos was published on the official Facebook page of the Upazila Administration, 'Uno Chandanaish', which instantly went viral. The status read:
"Though the color of their food plates changes, the color of their water bottles is turning bright red.
This needs to be looked into.
Even without being an expert in palmistry, looking at hands sometimes reveals whether someone has been subjected to caning or is suffering from skin diseases.
Wishing that these little children grow up in a safe educational environment."
Commenting on the matter, UNO Md. Abdur Rahman said, "The safety of the children is our top priority. Regular inspections like this will continue to ensure a safe living environment and hygienic conditions for children. Teachers must arrange to sleep in separate rooms from the children, and if any irregularities are found, action will be taken according to the rules."
Later, some child food items were distributed among the children as gifts by the UNO.
Upazila administration officials and local dignitaries were present during the visit. His humane initiative and Facebook post received widespread praise on social media.
