In this year's Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examination results, not a single student passed from two educational institutions in Sherpur district. The two institutions are Alhaj S.M.A. Warez Naim Model College in Jhinaigati Upazila and Manmatha Dey Mahavidyalaya in Sherpur Sadar Upazila. Furthermore, no college in the district achieved a 100% pass rate this year.

According to the HSC results published on October 31, the pass rate in Sherpur district this year stands at 45.65%. Last year (2025), the pass rate was 48.69%, while in 2024 it was 58.01%. Compared to last year, the pass rate decreased by 3.04 percentage points, and by 12.45 percentage points compared to the year before.

Alhaj S.M.A. Warez Naim Model College, which registered a zero pass rate, is located in Shalchura village of Jhinaigati Upazila. Established in 2014, the college was founded by Alhaj S.M.A. Warez Naim, former president of Jhinaigati Upazila Awami League, and was named after him. Only one student appeared for the HSC examination from this college this year, but that student failed to pass. On the other hand, Manmatha Dey Mahavidyalaya is situated on the outskirts of Sherpur Sadar Upazila, near the Jamalpur district border. Established in 2010, seven students appeared for the HSC exam from this college this year, and none of them passed.

Commenting on the matter, Abdul Kashem, Principal of Manmatha Dey Mahavidyalaya, said, "This college is established in a remote area. Generally, meritorious students do not enroll here; those who fail to get admission elsewhere come to us. The students here are not inclined toward regular classes, which affected their academic performance. All seven candidates failed this year, which is very unfortunate for us. We have not yet decided what steps to take next."

Sherpur District Education Officer Md. Rejuan stated, "The zero pass rate in two educational institutions in Sherpur is disappointing for us. We have information that regular classes are not conducted in those two institutions. They operate superficially by obtaining permission and enrolling just one or two students for exams."

Dr. Abu Khair Md. Kamal Hasan, Deputy Controller of Examinations (Higher Secondary) of Mymensingh Education Board, confirmed the matter, stating that 19 educational institutions under the Mymensingh Board recorded a zero pass rate this year, including the two colleges in Sherpur.

According to District Education Office sources, a total of 8,342 candidates filled out forms to sit for the 2026 HSC examinations from 31 educational institutions in Sherpur district. Among them, 8,003 students actually took the exams (3,719 male and 4,293 female students). Out of the examinees, 3,653 students passed (1,424 male and 2,229 female students). The examinations were conducted across 12 exam centers in the district.
