
Police have arrested 10 people on charges of stealing iron pipes from underneath the 8th Bangladesh-China Friendship (Bekutia) Bridge over the Kocha River in Pirojpur. Police reported that they were detained during a raid conducted under the bridge around 12:00 AM on Sunday (October 4) night.
Md. Shariful Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Pirojpur Sadar Police Station, stated that Humayun Howlader, Mahabub Sheikh, Amir Hossain, Barek Sheikh, Md. Suman Sana, Md. Mirajul Fakir, Md. Saddat Sheikh, Md. Siyam Howlader, Abdul Jabbar Bhutto, and Miraj Sheikh were arrested while removing iron pipes from beneath the bridge.
The name of Hemayet Bepari, President of Shariktola Union BNP in Pirojpur Sadar Upazila, has also come into discussion regarding the incident. However, police stated that the exact nature of his involvement is currently being verified. The OC added that legal action will be taken if allegations of involvement are proven through investigation.
Meanwhile, Pirojpur District BNP Convener Md. Nazrul Islam Khan said that Hemayet Bepari's matter is being looked into by the party. If his involvement in the incident is proven during the investigation, necessary organizational action will be taken in accordance with the party's constitution.
Police stated that legal procedures regarding the incident are currently ongoing.
