A youth named Sukhchand Hossain (28) has been detained, given a beating by the public, and handed over to the police on charges of attempting to hijack a CNG-driven autorickshaw in Pabna.

The incident took place on Monday morning (October 5) in the Berhaulia area of Faridpur upazila, Pabna. Later, drivers brought him to Chatmohar, where he was beaten by the public and handed over to the police. The detained Sukhchand is the son of Ariful Hossain from Shekhpara village in Bera upazila, Pabna.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) Oliur Rahman of Chatmohar Police Station confirmed the matter.

Police and autorickshaw drivers stated that on Monday morning, Sukhchand reserved a CNG-driven autorickshaw from Jardis Mor in Chatmohar municipal town to go to Faridpur. Later, upon reaching the Berhaulia area of Faridpur upazila, he told the driver to stop the car as more passengers would board. At one point, he allegedly kicked and punched the driver and attempted to attack him with a knife.

Upon witnessing the incident, several familiar CNG drivers from Chatmohar rushed forward and detained Sukhchand. Later, when they brought him to Chatmohar Jardis Mor, local people beat him up and informed the police. Subsequently, police arrived, detained him, and took him to the police station.

Chatmohar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Aliur Rahman stated that since filing a case would require listing the autorickshaw under seizure, the owners/drivers were initially hesitant to file a case. However, the detained Sukhchand Hossain will be sent to the Pabna court, he added.
