
With the theme "May Children's Future Be Secure," a discussion meeting was held in Faridpur to mark Child Rights Day 2026, Child Rights Week, and the 50th anniversary of Bangladesh Shishu Academy.
Organized by the District Shishu Academy, the event took place on Tuesday (October 6) morning at the conference room of the Faridpur Deputy Commissioner. During the program, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's participation and address at the central event held on the Bangladesh Shishu Academy premises in Dhaka were broadcast via videoconference. Children and students from various districts across the country also joined the virtual event.
Speaking at the discussion meeting, Faridpur Deputy Commissioner Mazharul Islam stated that families, educational institutions, the administration, and society as a whole must play a responsible role in developing children's talent and creativity. He emphasized that necessary steps will continue to be taken to establish children's rights and ensure a safe, beautiful future for them.
He further noted that children are the future of the nation, and everyone must work collectively to secure their rights, create opportunities for them to grow in a safe environment, and guarantee their education, health, and protection. He also stressed the importance of raising social awareness to prevent child labor, child marriage, abuse, and discrimination against children.
Other speakers at the event included Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Md. Sohrab Hossain, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ICT & Education) Hasan-bin-Muhammad, District Primary Education Officer A. K. M. Toifikur Rahman, District Child Affairs Officer Mehedi Hasan, and Dolly Yasmin, Headmistress of Tarar Mela Ishan Memorial School.
Officials from various levels of the district administration, teachers, students, and parents were present at the event.
Notably, Bangladesh Shishu Academy was established in 1976 to nurture the intellect, creativity, and latent talents of children. This year marks the golden jubilee (50th anniversary) of the institution. Through its district-level branches across the country, the academy offers training and runs activities for children in literature, culture, and various creative fields.
