Inclusive Cultural and Sports Event Held in Chilmari Char Areas
Children with and without disabilities participate in a sports and cultural competition at a government primary school in Ashtamichar Union of Chilmari upazila, Kurigram, on Wednesday.

An inclusive cultural and sports event was held simultaneously across the char regions of Ashtamichar Union, specifically in Uttar Mudafat and Datiyar Char under Chilmari Upazila of Kurigram.

The events took place on Wednesday (October 7) around 11:00 AM at Madhya Uttar Mudafat Government Primary School in Uttar Mudafat Char and Datiyar Char Government Primary School. The core objective of the program was to ensure equal participation of children with and without disabilities, fostering mutual cooperation, social harmony, and an inclusive environment.

Students actively participated in various sports and cultural competitions. Teachers, students, parents, community representatives, members of the Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR) Watch Committee, and members of Self-Help Groups (SHG) were present on the occasion.

At the Uttar Mudafat Government Primary School venue, land donor Motiur Rahman encouraged the students and distributed prizes among the winners and participants.

Meanwhile, at Datiyar Char Government Primary School, local community leader Sojib Mia and CBR representatives cheered on the children and participated in the prize distribution ceremony.

Speakers at the event emphasized that sports and cultural activities play a pivotal role in children's physical and mental development while boosting their confidence, leadership skills, and social engagement. They noted that joint participation of children with and without disabilities paves the way for building a non-discriminatory and inclusive society.

Among others, FDIDP Manager Ruhul Amin Sarkar, Technical Supervisors Montajul Rahman, Hafizur Rahman, and Anisur Rahman addressed the gathering.
