The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) reported five additional deaths from measles-like symptoms within a 24-hour window on Tuesday (September 29, 2026), bringing the nationwide death toll from confirmed measles and related symptoms to 1,104 this year.
According to the regular DGHS health bulletin, all five recent fatalities occurred in the Dhaka division. Over the same 24-hour period, 1,339 new patients presenting with measles symptoms were admitted to hospitals across the country, led by Dhaka (516), Chittagong (279), Sylhet (206), Barisal (107), Khulna (89), Mymensingh (86), Rajshahi (29), and Rangpur (27). DGHS statistical records indicate that between March 15 and September 29, a cumulative total of 190,550 suspected measles cases were recorded nationwide, with 21,392 laboratory-confirmed infections. Hospital admissions for symptomatic patients reached 168,655 during this period, of which 161,798 patients have recovered and been discharged. Total casualties comprise 101 lab-confirmed measles deaths and 1,003 deaths associated with measles symptoms.
