The dengue situation in Bangladesh continues to worsen, with eight more fatalities reported in a 24-hour period, bringing the national death toll to 209 this year.
According to the daily dengue bulletin issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Thursday (September 24, 2026), 1,782 new patients were admitted to various hospitals across the country between Wednesday morning and Thursday morning. DGHS statistics reveal a sharp rise in fatalities in recent months: 112 deaths were recorded in the first 23 days of September alone, following 43 deaths in August, 36 in July, 13 in June, one in May, and two each in January and February. Among the latest admissions, Dhaka Division recorded the highest number with 716 patients, followed by Chattogram with 288, Khulna with 286, Barishal with 164, Rajshahi with 130, Mymensingh with 108, Rangpur with 73, and Sylhet with 17. A total of 69,149 patients have been hospitalized with dengue in 2026, while 63,874 have recovered and been discharged.
