To mark World Mental Health Day 2026, a colorful rally, discussion meeting, and Continuing Medical Education (CME) session were organized by BGC Trust Medical College Hospital.

On the occasion, an awareness rally was brought out from the hospital premises on Saturday at 10:00 AM. The rally paraded through the main roads of the campus. The Principal, Vice-Principal, heads of various departments, doctors, nurses, intern doctors, medical students, and administrative staff participated in the event.

Following the rally, speakers at the discussion meeting highlighted that mental health is as important as physical health. They emphasized that mental illness is neither a superstition nor a matter of shame, noting that most mental health conditions are curable if expert medical advice is sought in a timely manner.

Later at 12:30 PM, a CME session titled "Stress Unplugged: Decoding the Mind-Body Connection" was conducted at Lecture Hall-01 under the initiative of the Medical Education Unit (MEU) and organized by the Department of Psychiatry.

The CME session was chaired by Prof. Dr. Arup Dutta, Principal of BGC Trust Medical College Hospital and Chairman of MEU. Prof. Dr. Md. Sheikh Shahid Ullah, Hospital Director and Professor of the Microbiology Department, attended the event as the special guest.

Dr. Surajit Ray Chowdhury, Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of Psychiatry, presented the keynote paper during the session.

Prof. Dr. Olvin Saha, Head of the Department of Dermatology and Sexology; Dr. Manik Chandra Nath, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Physiology; and Dr. Ujjwal Kanti Das, Assistant Professor of the Department of Medicine, participated in the discussion as panel experts.

The entire program was moderated by Dr. Pulak Biswas, Lecturer in the Department of Physiology.

All faculty members and doctors of the college were present at the event. Speakers discussed in detail how mental stress affects both the mind and body and underscored the vital importance of effective stress management.
