A special awareness rally was held in Sector 12 of Uttara, Dhaka, to mark Environmental Cleanliness Week 2026 and educate residents on preventing dengue and chikungunya.
Organized by the Uttara Sector 12 Welfare Society on Friday (October 9) morning, the rally paraded through various streets across the sector. Members of the society's executive committee, leaders of local social organizations, and residents actively participated in the event.
Delowar Hossain, General Secretary of the Uttara Sector 12 Welfare Society, delivered the welcome address, emphasizing the critical importance of maintaining a clean environment to curb mosquito-borne diseases. He appealed to residents to keep their homes, roads, and surrounding vacant plots clean.
Khaledur Rahman, Secretary of Health and Environment for the society, who supervised the program, stated that destroying mosquito breeding grounds and removing stagnant water are essential steps in combating dengue and chikungunya. He expressed hope that such initiatives would foster a strong culture of health protection and hygiene among community members.
Speakers at the rally highlighted that government efforts alone are insufficient to eradicate dengue, calling for spontaneous public participation and joint action. Following the addresses, organizers formally launched the week-long activities for Environmental Cleanliness Week 2026.
The event was attended by Society Organizational and Publicity Secretary Md. Majedul Haq, Security Secretary Shafiqul Islam Shaheen, and Sports and Social Welfare Secretary Monjur Hossain Khan, alongside general society members and local community leaders.
