A Chinese national was arrested at Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok after customs officials discovered 8,900 weight-loss injection pens packed inside two checked suitcases, according to a report published by the Thai media outlet Bangkok Post on Monday, November 2, 2026. The passenger had traveled from Dhaka's international airport in Bangladesh to Bangkok.
The seized medication holds an estimated market value of 5.3 million Thai Baht, equivalent to roughly ৳2 crore in Bangladeshi currency. Thai customs inspectors intercepted the traveler after scanning his luggage upon arrival, uncovering thousands of plastic-wrapped injection pens containing GLP-1 receptor agonists.

Supatra Boonserm, Secretary-General of Thailand's Food and Drug Administration (FDA), explained that the drug mimics glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1)—a hormone naturally produced in the human body. While originally engineered to manage blood sugar and delay gastric emptying for patients with Type-2 diabetes, the drug has seen widespread misuse for unmonitored weight loss. Following rising illicit circulation, Thailand enacted stringent policy controls on the substance last September.
