The private operator chopper took off from Badrinath bound for Dehradun at approximately 2:15 PM local time on Friday, October 30, 2026, before losing radio contact near the Hathi Parvat area amidst heavy snowfall. Following a search operation, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami confirmed via social media that the helicopter went down near Chaien (Chayee) village close to Joshimath in Chamoli district.
In an official statement on X (formerly Twitter), CM Dhami stated, "We received tragic news regarding a helicopter crash near Chaien village in Joshimath. A joint rescue operation is being conducted by the district administration, Disaster Management Department, and SDRF. Directives have been issued to immediately airlift severely injured individuals to higher medical centers for advanced treatment. I pray to God for the safe return of all passengers." Joint rescue teams from the Indian Army, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and local police are actively carrying out operations at the crash site.
