India aims to build a positive, constructive, and forward-looking relationship with Bangladesh, official spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated during a weekly Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) press briefing in New Delhi on Tuesday (September 22, 2026).
Addressing inquiries on bilateral dynamics and potential side-margin meetings at the 81st UN General Assembly session in New York, Jaiswal reiterated that India remains prepared to discuss all bilateral matters using established institutional mechanisms. He noted that while no confirmed schedule exists yet regarding a meeting between External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and the Bangladeshi delegation led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, any confirmed updates will be communicated accordingly. Referring to Bangladesh Air Force's upcoming participation in India’s joint air exercise 'Tarang Shakti' in Jodhpur alongside six other nations, Jaiswal reinforced New Delhi's commitment to steering relations in a constructive direction.
