An IndiGo flight traveling from New Delhi to Chennai was forced to make an emergency landing in Hyderabad on Sunday (October 11, 2026) after a power bank exploded and ignited a fire in the overhead baggage compartment mid-air.

According to reports from NDTV, IndiGo flight 6E 6115 encountered the terrifying incident when smoke was suddenly detected billowing from a passenger's bag stored in the overhead bin. Video footage circulating on social media captured anxious passengers attempting to douse the flames before cabin crew members swiftly intervened with onboard fire extinguishers.

Following standard safety protocols, the pilot diverted the aircraft to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad, where it landed safely. IndiGo released an official statement confirming that all passengers and crew members are safe and unharmed. An alternate aircraft was promptly arranged to carry the passengers onward to Chennai, while the airline expressed regret for the mid-air disruption.
