Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that Tehran is prepared to reopen the vital Strait of Hormuz within two days provided the United States fulfills a specific list of conditions set forth by Iran.
Speaking to international news outlet Al Jazeera, Araghchi highlighted that a core prerequisite is the formal international recognition of the new maritime route jointly established by Iran and Oman in the Strait of Hormuz, while closing all alternative routes. Furthermore, Iran’s demands include the complete lifting of US sanctions re-imposed after the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, the reinstatement of oil export sanction waivers announced under the June agreement, the reduction of US military troop levels across the Middle East, and the unfreezing of Iranian financial assets—specifically those held in Qatari financial institutions. On the geopolitical and military front, Iran mandates an immediate cessation of hostilities across all regional fronts, emphasizing an immediate end to military strikes in Lebanon.
