The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) has conducted precision aerial and drone strikes targeting 10 locations inside Afghanistan in response to explosive-laden drone attacks launched by the Afghan military toward Pakistani border posts.
Pakistan's Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Attaullah Tarar, confirmed the military action on Thursday (September 24, 2026), stating that the retaliatory strikes were carried out under Pakistan's sovereign right to self-defense. According to Pakistani authorities, the operation followed an incident on Wednesday (September 23) where the Afghan military launched eight explosive-carrying drones targeting security and military posts in Torkham and Kohat district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Pakistani air defense systems intercepted and destroyed all eight drones before they reached their intended targets.
Minister Tarar described the drone incursions as a "blatant and unlawful violation" of Pakistan's sovereignty and territorial integrity. He emphasized that Pakistan's aerial response was deliberate, precise, calibrated, and strictly limited to identified military sites used for storing and launching drones. Tensions along the Durand Line have escalated sharply since February 2026 under Pakistan's broader military campaign "Operation Ghazab-lil-Haq," triggered by repeated cross-border skirmishes and militant activity attributed to the outlawed Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). Although Pakistani officials did not name the exact ten targeted Afghan sites, regional sources reported strikes affecting military infrastructure and command facilities across border provinces.
