Rahul Gandhi Claims 50% of Indian Police and Paramilitary Personnel Support Ongoing Protests
Indian Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi addressing the media regarding police support for demonstrators and allegations against the Election Commission.

Indian Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi has claimed that a significant portion of India's police and paramilitary personnel privately support ongoing anti-government demonstrators.

Addressing a press conference cited by news agency Al Jazeera on Monday (October 12, 2026), Rahul Gandhi stated that approximately 50 percent of police officers are telling opposition activists that their cause is right and urging them to continue their movement.

He asserted that state police, the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and the general public stand on one side, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar stand on the other. Gandhi further alleged that top Election Commission officials are facilitating "vote theft" and helping the ruling administration capture the country's democratic machinery.
