US President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that Russia and Ukraine have agreed to a "bilateral energy truce," committing to refrain from targeting each other's oil refineries and power facilities.
While Moscow has offered no official comment, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed surprise, stating via Telegram that Kyiv has not received formal documentation regarding the deal and is awaiting details from Washington. Trump warned Zelenskyy to halt strikes on Russian refineries and suggested Ukrainians elect new leadership. In response, Zelenskyy stated that holding presidential elections during martial law requires a full 60-day ceasefire from Russia.
The diplomatic friction comes as the White House temporarily waived sanctions on Russian diesel through April 7, 2027, to curb spiking global fuel costs, leveraging threats of intelligence-sharing suspensions and weapons hold-ups under the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) to pressure Kyiv into compliance.
