Trump Believes He Deserves Nobel Peace Prize, Expresses Doubt Over Committee Decision

United States President Donald Trump has stated that he believes he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of his foreign policy contributions since returning to office, while expressing doubt over whether the Norwegian Nobel Committee will grant him the honor.

Speaking to reporters at the Oval Office, President Trump highlighted his administrative role in addressing several global conflicts since taking office in January 2025. Trump noted that while political leaders from various nations have reportedly nominated him, the committee has a historical reputation for overlooking candidates like him. Reflecting on Venezuelan politician María Corina Machado presenting him her Nobel medal earlier this year, Trump remarked that he felt honored by the gesture. Foreign policy analysts note that while Trump claims credit for resolving several regional disputes, several ongoing crises—including unresolved fighting in Ukraine, border skirmishes between Thailand and Cambodia, and joint US-Israeli military operations against Iran—continue to complicate global stability and energy markets. The Norwegian Nobel Committee is scheduled to officially announce the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize laureate in Oslo on Friday, October 9.
