The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has called upon all member nations of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) to unite and take decisive joint military action against the Yemeni Houthi movement, warning that the security of all Gulf states is inextricably linked.
In a statement published on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday (October 12, 2026), Dr. Anwar Gargash, Diplomatic Adviser to UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, emphasized that regional aggressors have operated under the mistaken belief that Gulf nations are hesitant to engage militarily. "Aggressors have operated on the misconception that Gulf Arab states are a soft target keen to avoid conflict at any cost. It has become abundantly clear that we are all targets, and our security is indivisible," Dr. Gargash asserted. He called for an immediate revitalization of collective GCC defense mechanisms, pointing out that current security gaps have emboldened hostile forces.
The UAE’s call comes amidst a dramatic escalation in Houthi missile and drone strikes targeting Saudi Arabia’s economic and critical infrastructure, seen as an expansion of the broader US-Iran conflict that broke out on February 28. Over three consecutive days—Saturday, Sunday, and Monday—Houthi forces launched missile strikes targeting King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, resulting in 14 deaths and over 300 injuries. Furthermore, Houthi forces seized control of the strategic Bab al-Mandab Strait last month, severely threatening Saudi oil export capabilities and global maritime commerce in the Red Sea.
