A Dhaka court has deferred the charge framing hearing against ousted former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 33 others to October 8 in a case filed over the murder of truck driver Md. Hossain in the capital's Mohammadpur area during the anti-discrimination student movement.
Judge Rabiul Alam of the Special Judge Court-4 of Dhaka issued the postponement order on Thursday (September 24, 2026). State prosecutor M. Anisur Rahman confirmed that the hearing was rescheduled because detained accused former State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak was not produced before the court. According to case documents, truck driver Md. Hossain was shot dead in the Chand Udyan area of Mohammadpur on July 19, 2024, while returning home after parking his vehicle in Gabtoli. On August 31, 2024, his mother Reena Begum filed a murder case at Mohammadpur Police Station. Sub-Inspector Akramuzzaman submitted the charge sheet on November 23, 2025, naming Sheikh Hasina and 33 others. Twenty accused, including Sheikh Hasina, former ministers Obaidul Quader, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Hasan Mahmud, Jahangir Kabir Nanak, and Chhatra League leaders, remain absconding under arrest warrants issued on January 26. Four accused, including Zunaid Ahmed Palak and former MP Sadeq Khan, are currently in prison, while ten others are out on bail.
