Investigating Officer Sub-Inspector Shamsujjoha Sarkar of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station outlined five specific grounds in a remand application seeking a seven-day interrogation period for Satkhira-4 MP Gazi Nazrul Islam and his first wife, Maksuda Begum, regarding the abetment of suicide of his second wife, Morium Khatun.
According to the petition submitted to the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court on Monday (September 21), police cited five core reasons for remand: evaluating the influence of the present accused since they were in the same NAM Building flat during the incident; uncovering their direct involvement in mental pressure, intimidation, or provocation; questioning them on the location and role of absconding accused Obaidur Rahman; identifying and arresting any unnamed suspects; and unearthing the underlying motives behind the suicide.
The remand request follows the recovery of Morium Khatun's hanging body from Flat No. 203 of NAM Building No. 5 on Sunday. A case was subsequently filed by the victim's father, Md. Masum Billah, accusing MP Nazrul Islam, his first wife Maksuda, and brother-in-law Obaidur of physical and psychological torture leading to her death.
