Journalist Waheduzzaman Tipu Becomes Acting General Secretary of Ishwardi Press Club

Journalist Waheduzzaman Tipu—publisher and editor of the daily Bir Bangla and Bir Bangla 24.com, Ishwardi representative of the daily Ajker Khabor, and senior co-general secretary of the current committee—has been elected as the acting general secretary of the Ishwardi Press Club executive committee. This decision was adopted at an executive committee meeting on Thursday evening (October 1).

Prior to this, a majority of the executive committee members submitted an application to the president proposing a vote of no confidence, accusing the former general secretary, Sheikh Mehedi Hasan, of inexperience, ignorance, and arbitrariness. In response to that application, he was unanimously removed from the post of general secretary.

Acting General Secretary Waheduzzaman Tipu began his journalism career in 1998, starting as a photojournalist, then working for local newspapers, followed by serving as the Ishwardi representative for Dhaka-based newspapers such as Dainik Probhat, Dainik Al Amin, and Dainik Ajker Khabor. In his two-decade journalism career, he has received multiple PIB trainings and spent 4 years working with an NGO on journalism. In 2020, journalist Waheduzzaman Tipu obtained a declaration and began publishing the daily newspaper Bir Bangla, while also operating the online news portal Bir Bangla 24.com. He became a permanent member of the Ishwardi Press Club in 2013, later being elected as the Literary and Cultural Secretary. In the previous committee, he served as the assistant general secretary, and prior to this appointment, he was the senior co-general secretary of the current committee. Following the removal of Sheikh Mehedi Hasan, he assumed the responsibilities of acting general secretary of the Ishwardi Press Club.
