
A 22-day special drive and mobile court operation have commenced in Pirojpur to protect mother Hilsa and ensure their uninterrupted breeding. Marking the start of the drive, administration and law enforcement agencies conducted a joint patrol along the Kaliganga and Kocha rivers.
Organized jointly by the District Administration and the Department of Fisheries, Pirojpur, to execute the Mother Hilsa Conservation Program-2026, the activity was officially inaugurated at 4:00 PM on Thursday (October 8) at Hularhat Launch Terminal. Following the inauguration, a joint patrol was conducted on the Kaliganga and Kocha rivers.
Pirojpur Deputy Commissioner Md. Golam Robbani attended the inauguration ceremony as the chief guest. Special guests included Superintendent of Police Muhammad Talebur Rahman, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Mahamudur Rahman Mamun, and Kawkhali Upazila Nirbahi Officer Rehena Akter. A combined operational team comprising Navy and police personnel participated in the patrol, with District Fisheries Officer Sanjib Sannamat overseeing the overall operation.
According to District Fisheries Department sources, catching, transporting, stockpiling, preserving, and selling Hilsa will remain strictly prohibited for 22 days from October 8 to October 29, 2026. Regular drives and mobile court operations will be conducted across various rivers in the district to enforce the ban, safeguard mother Hilsa, ensure smooth spawning, and boost overall Hilsa production.
