Street Hawkers Attack Police and DNCC Officials During Mirpur Eviction Drive; 30 Detained
Law enforcement personnel secure the Mirpur 10 roundabout after street vendors attacked DNCC eviction teams and set fire to municipal vehicles.

A violent clash erupted at the Mirpur 10 roundabout in Dhaka on Wednesday afternoon (September 30, 2026) when illegal street vendors launched an attack on Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) officials and police personnel during a routine footpath eviction drive.

According to Assistant Commissioner of Police (Mirpur Zone) Abul Bashar Mulla, hawkers set fire to two DNCC vehicles and vandalized a police cruiser as authorities attempted to clear unauthorized shops from public walkways. At least nine police officers sustained injuries during the assault before reinforced police units arrived at the scene to restore order. Law enforcement authorities have detained at least 30 individuals in connection with the violence and arson. Police officials emphasized that regular eviction drives will continue at the Mirpur 10 intersection, confirming that formal criminal cases will be filed against those responsible for attacking civil servants and destroying public property.
