Army Air Defense School to Hold 5-Day Anti-Aircraft Firing Exercises Off Chattogram Coast; BIWTA Issues Maritime Safety Advisory
Coastal air defense firing range off Faujdarhat and Halishahar in Chattogram, where the Bangladesh Army will conduct five days of anti-aircraft live-firing drills from October 19 to 23.

The Bangladesh Army’s School of Army Air Defense will conduct a five-day anti-aircraft live-firing exercise off the coastal areas of Faujdarhat and Halishahar in Chattogram, prompting emergency navigation warnings for maritime traffic.

According to a maritime safety notice issued by the Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) on Monday (October 5, 2026), trainees from the OBC (AD)-40 course will carry out anti-aircraft artillery drills daily from 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM starting October 19 through October 23. The designated dangerous clearance zone encompasses coastal and offshore stretches under Sitakunda, Pahartali, Akbar Shah, and Halishahar police stations. BIWTA highlighted that the hazardous range extends 12,000 yards (approximately 6.8 nautical miles) seaward along north-south boundaries and reaches an altitude of up to 22,000 feet above sea level. Commercial vessels, fishing trawlers, and cargo ships navigating the regional channel have been instructed to strictly avoid the designated firing zone, utilize official BIWTA pilots, and maintain heightened alert measures—including fog signals and navigation lights—to prevent maritime accidents during the five-day military exercise.
