Dark monsoon clouds lingering over Bangladesh as the Bangladesh Meteorological Department forecasts complete monsoon withdrawal within 24 hours.

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has announced that the southwest monsoon is expected to completely withdraw from the country within the next 24 hours, while predicting light to moderate rain or thundershowers in several divisions over the coming 48 hours.

According to a weather bulletin issued at 9:00 AM on Wednesday (October 7, 2026) by meteorologist Md. Tariful Newaz Kabir, the southwest monsoon has already retreated from western Bangladesh. It currently remains less active over the southern and eastern regions and remains weak over the North Bay of Bengal. Under its influence, temporary gusty winds accompanied by light to moderate rain or thundershowers are expected in parts of Rangpur, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions, as well as isolated areas of Dhaka, Rajshahi, Khulna, Barishal, and Chattogram divisions on Wednesday. Precipitation activity is forecasted to expand on Thursday across most areas of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, and Khulna divisions, alongside moderate to heavy falls in isolated pockets nationwide. Over the past 24 hours, Ishwardi recorded the country's highest rainfall at 42 mm, while the maximum temperature was recorded at 35°C in Koyra and the lowest at 21.5°C in Tetulia.
