Auto-Rikshaw Drivers Block Mohammadpur Four-Way Intersection Protesting Dumping Harassment and City Ban Threat
Auto-rickshaw drivers blocking the Mohammadpur four-way intersection in Dhaka on Sunday, protesting vehicle seizures and proposed ban threats.

Auto-rickshaw drivers staged a major road blockade at the busy Mohammadpur four-way intersection (Char Rastar Mor) in Dhaka on Sunday morning (October 11, 2026), protesting against frequent vehicle dumpings by traffic police and recent warnings from the Road Transport and Bridges Minister regarding a citywide ban within three days.

The protest, which began around 10:00 AM, paralyzed traffic movement on crucial arterial routes connecting Mohammadpur, Bosila, and Gabtoli, stranding thousands of commuters in severe gridlock. Demonstrating drivers voiced deep frustration over indiscriminate police actions, claiming that traffic officers routinely seize and dump their vehicles even when operating within permitted feeder roads and neighborhood lanes. Affected drivers pointed out that despite obeying restrictions on major arteries like Mirpur Road, police have recently begun seizing auto-rickshaws on Dhanmondi interconnecting roads and delaying the release of impounded vehicles. Calling for an immediate end to harassment and demanding clear operational access on non-arterial routes, the drivers warned that losing their primary source of income leaves their families in dire financial distress and unable to repay microfinance loans.
