Bangladesh and Japan have resolved to deepen bilateral healthcare cooperation, boost Japanese investments, and expand skilled medical workforce transfers during the Bangladesh Healthcare Business Seminar held at the Bangladesh Embassy in Tokyo on Friday (October 2, 2026).
Organized jointly by the Embassy of Bangladesh, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), the seminar convened prominent Japanese business leaders, health sector representatives, and investors. In a video message, Bangladesh's State Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Dr. M. A. Muhit, highlighted ongoing government initiatives to achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC) while seeking Japanese technical partnership and investment in hospital modernization, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, and Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) production. Bangladesh Ambassador to Japan, Md. Daud Ali, commended JICA and JETRO for their sustained development support in maternal and child healthcare, community health, and vaccination programs. He highlighted that Bangladesh's population of over 170 million creates vast opportunities for Japanese diagnostic technology, specialized hospital management, and caregiver training initiatives targeting Japan's eldercare sector. Presentations mapping investment avenues in Bangladesh were delivered by Senior Officials from the Health Services Division and Director General of Health Services Prof. Dr. Prabhat Chandra Biswas, alongside JICA South Asia Director General Tetsuya Yamada and JETRO Senior Director Yuji Ando.
