Former MP Major (Retd) Akhtaruzzaman Arrested in Dhaka Following Airport Altercation Case
Major (Retd) Akhtaruzzaman, who was arrested by DMP officers in Dhaka following allegations of assaulting airport staff.

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested Jamaat-e-Islami leader Major (Retd) Akhtaruzzaman from his residence in Dhaka on Friday evening (October 2, 2026).

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Media and Public Relations) Arifa Akhtar Preeti confirmed the arrest. The action follows a criminal case filed earlier in the day at Airport Police Station by Shahjalal International Airport Security Officer Md. Shahriar Alam Sojib. According to the case statement, tensions arose at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Thursday (October 1) due to delays in luggage retrieval for passengers arriving on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight (BG-338) from Madinah. When Airport Executive Director Group Captain S. M. Rageeb Samad intervened to manage the crowd, Major (Retd) Akhtaruzzaman allegedly verbally abused and threatened him. The complaint further alleges that Akhtaruzzaman assaulted security personnel, physically harassed Warrant Officer Mohammad Kamal Uddin when security tried to stop unauthorized filming in a restricted area, and disrupted airport operations.

Major (Retd) Akhtaruzzaman, a former Member of Parliament who was previously expelled from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) for disciplinary violations, joined Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami on December 13, 2025.
