Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed reiterated that Bangladesh remains firmly committed to ensuring the safe, voluntary, dignified, and sustainable repatriation of Forcibly Displaced Myanmar Nationals (FDMNs), stressing that coordinated regional and international diplomatic efforts are being intensified to achieve a lasting solution.

Speaking as the chief guest at a seminar titled "Rohingya Crisis: Way Forward - Towards Sustainable Repatriation and a Durable Regional Solution" organized by the Foundation for Strategic and Development Studies (FSDS) at Hotel Radisson Blu Water Garden on Sunday (October 11, 2026), the Home Minister highlighted that Bangladesh's standalone efforts are insufficient without a strategic regional coalition involving China, Japan, ASEAN, the UN, and the EU. Minister Salahuddin noted recent high-level discussions with Yohei Sasakawa, Special Envoy of the Government of Japan for National Reconciliation in Myanmar, adding that the Prime Minister's upcoming official visit to Japan later this month will further prioritize repatriation acceleration.

Addressing the evolving geopolitical landscape in Rakhine State—where the Arakan Army currently controls vast territories—the Minister stated that Bangladesh is maintaining informal channels alongside formal diplomacy to ensure peaceful return remains achievable. Special Guest and Public Administration Advisor Md. Ismail Zabiullah emphasized shifting from temporary relief management to a cohesive national strategy, while Minister Salahuddin added that Bangladesh's election to the UN General Assembly Presidency provides a powerful global platform to press for Rohingya citizenship and security guarantees in Myanmar.
