Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad Issues 26-Point Directive Banning Excessive Lighting and Loudspeakers for Durga Puja
Preparations for Sharadiya Durga Puja across pandals nationwide following the Parishad's 26-point safety and environmental guidelines.

To ensure a peaceful, safe, and eco-friendly celebration of Sharadiya Durga Puja, the Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad has issued a comprehensive 26-point directive for district and upazila-level puja celebration committees across the country.

Signed by Parishad General Secretary Santosh Sharma on Saturday (October 17, 2026), the guidelines strictly prohibit excessive lighting, high-volume loudspeakers, DJ music, and the bursting of firecrackers. Committees have been instructed to eliminate plastic usage in favor of eco-friendly materials, restrict audio playback strictly to devotional and religious hymns, and avoid causing sound pollution to neighboring residents. To counter potential power outages, organizers must maintain backup generators, UPS units, or solar systems with safe electrical wiring.

For comprehensive security, mandaps must install CCTV cameras at key entry points, keep fire-fighting equipment ready, and establish separate pathways for male and female visitors. Committees are also mandated to recruit local volunteers, maintain verified name and mobile number registries, submit lists to local police stations, and ensure volunteers wear visible ID cards. Regarding idol immersion (Pratima Bisarjan), the Parishad strongly advised completing processions with strict discipline, preferably before evening, while urging the public to avoid rumors and immediately contact law enforcement or dial 999 in case of emergencies.
