State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir speaking to media representatives in Dhaka regarding the Makkah Pact and strategic Saudi partnership.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir affirmed that Bangladesh will make no compromise regarding the sanctity and security of the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah, expressing Dhaka's strong interest in joining the 'Makkah Pact' (Mecca Joint Defence Agreement).

Speaking to journalists following a seminar organized by BIISS and North South University at the Foreign Service Academy on Saturday (October 10, 2026), the State Minister emphasized that Bangladesh stands ready to take all necessary measures to safeguard the holy sites.

Highlighting the strategic evolution of Bangladesh-Saudi ties, Humayun Kabir noted that the relationship is expanding beyond traditional manpower export toward deep cooperation in energy, investment, and technology. He cited Saudi Arabia’s $2.43 billion investment in the Star Refinery-2 project as a cornerstone of this economic partnership. Additionally, addressing Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s upcoming visit to Japan, the Minister stated that discussions will focus on expanding bilateral investment and mitigating ongoing national energy challenges.
