The authorities of Tahfizul Quranil Karim Fazil (Graduate) Madrassah have filed a case against 74 people, including a local union BNP president, in connection with the planned attack, vandalism, and looting over the control and management of the madrassah in the Sreepur area of Ashulia, Savar. Ashulia Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Tariqul Islam confirmed the filing of the case on Monday. Earlier on Sunday evening, following the afternoon's attack and vandalism, Syed Sanjid, the madrasah's Deputy Director (Administration), filed a written complaint at night.
According to the case statement, the case has been filed under charges of unlawful assembly, trespassing, vandalism, looting, causing damage, and making threats, naming 14 individuals—with Imam Hasan (50) as the prime accused and Dhamsona Union BNP Acting President Zakir Hossain alias Chhosha Zakir as the second-accused—along with an additional 60 to 70 unidentified people. The plaintiff alleged that the accused had a long-standing dispute over a market owned by the madrasah. Continuing this dispute, around 4:30 PM on Sunday, upon the orders of accused Imam Hasan, other accused individuals gathered with domestic weapons, illegally trespassed into the madrasah and market, and attempted to take over the market. When the madrasah's Security In-charge Md. Altab Hossain (65) tried to intervene, the perpetrators threatened him with death. Later, the accused vandalized the madrasah furniture, doors, windows, and about 20 CCTV cameras, causing damage worth approximately Tk 1.5 million. They also looted Tk 2 million in cash kept in the madrasah locker, two laptops worth Tk 140,000, and 10 computer monitors worth about Tk 200,000.
Syed Sanjid, Deputy Director (Administration) of the madrasah and a member of the Ashraf Charitable Trust, alleged that a concerted group of 50 to 60 people armed with sticks and domestic weapons, led by local BNP leader Zakir Hossain and Imam Hasan, launched a sudden attack on the madrasah, carrying out extensive vandalism and looting valuables including computers and cash. He added that they had previously forcibly occupied a market built on the trust's land beside the highway in front of the madrasah, and carried out this attack out of resentment for recently being ousted from there.
On the other hand, Zakir Hossain, Acting President of Dhamsona Union BNP and President of Dhaka District Tanti Dal, completely denied the allegations of the attack. Labeling Syed Sanjid as a "terrorist and drug addict," he claimed that Sanjid has no connection to the madrasah. Claiming himself to be a member of the madrasah’s governing body and stating that his son is a student there, Zakir asserted that Sanjid had forcibly occupied the madrasah, prompting distressed local residents to expel them.
Investigation officer Sub-Inspector (SI) Rafiqul Islam of Ashulia Police Station stated that police are conducting raids in various locations to arrest the accused in the case, and the attackers and looters will be brought to justice very soon.
