Chittagong Customs authorities have detected major declaration anomalies and unidentified colored powdered substances during a physical inspection of an import consignment arriving from Kolkata, India.
According to a press release from the National Board of Revenue (NBR), the consignment arrived at Chittagong Port on September 22, 2026, aboard the vessel MV Uddipan Express under master bill of lading 301174347. The shipment contained two house bills of lading. The first (ISLCCU2627CGP095), declared as "Pan Masala and Jorda," listed 473 packages weighing 8,974 kg. However, physical inspection on September 27 revealed 470 packages containing 8,250.4 kg of tobacco-like material along with several packages of dark brown, brown, grey, and white powdered substances. Samples have been sent for laboratory chemical analysis to test for narcotics or restricted materials. The second house bill of lading (ISLCCU2627CGP096), declared as "Printed Paper Catalogs," listed 1,570 packages weighing 9,859.6 kg, but physical testing yielded 9,263 kg of waste paper instead. The named consignee, Athoy Enterprise, submitted a written statement denying any involvement or ownership, suspecting identity theft by an organized syndicate. Customs officials have launched a investigation into the misdeclaration and fraudulent company identity usage.
