A Dhaka court on Thursday (October 1, 2026) rejected the bail petition of Police Inspector Md. Rakibul Hasan, former Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Cantonment Police Station, in connection with a sedition case involving provocative anti-state statements on social media.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md. Monirul Islam issued the order following hearing arguments from Defense Counsel Morshed Hossain Shaheen, who asserted that his client was politically framed and that investigators failed to present material evidence of sedition during police remand. Inspector Hasan was initially remanded for five days on September 24, followed by an additional two-day remand on September 28, before the case was transferred to the Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP). According to the case details, Hasan was relieved of his duties and attached to DMP Headquarters after an audio recording featuring hostile comments against the state and government surfaced on social media, prompting the Home Ministry to authorize formal sedition charges at Cantonment Police Station.
