Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Administrator Md. Abdus Salam has announced that a new playground for children and youth will be constructed within one month on newly reclaimed government land in the Faridabad IG Gate area.
The announcement was made on Thursday (October 8, 2026) following an inspection drive covering tree-planting, waste management, mosquito control, and road-footpath development across the Bangladesh Bank Colony and adjacent areas in Faridabad. Administrator Salam revealed that the cleared site had been illegally occupied as a slum for nearly 50 years, functioning as a localized hub for narcotics sales and illicit activities. In addition to the playground, DSCC plans to build an access road and explore the feasibility of constructing a community center on the site. Salam highlighted ongoing infrastructure projects totaling BDT 15 crore in Ward 47, while actively participating in larviciding drives to combat dengue. He urged city residents to maintain cleanliness and prevent stagnant water accumulation in surrounding premises. The event was attended by Dhaka Metropolitan South BNP Member Secretary Tanveer Ahmed Robin, DSCC Chief Waste Management Officer Air Commodore Md. Mahabubur Rahman Talukdar, Chief Health Officer Dr. Jahane Ferdous Binte Rahman, and Wari Zone Deputy Commissioner of Police Mallick Ahsan Uddin Sami.
