Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Abdul Awal Mintoo has emphasized the imperative of enhanced international collaboration, accessible climate finance, technology transfer, and institutional capacity building to combat Bangladesh’s severe climate vulnerabilities.

The Minister voiced these priorities during a bilateral meeting with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Resident Representative Stefan Rodrigues at the Bangladesh Secretariat in Dhaka on Thursday (October 8, 2026). Accompanied by State Minister for Environment Sheikh Faridul Islam, Minister Mintoo urged UNDP to expand its technical and financial support towards climate adaptation, biodiversity preservation, plastic waste management, and active participation in global carbon credit markets. Highlighting key national initiatives—including the Biodiversity Finance Plan (BIOFIN), the National Cooling Plan for low-carbon development, and targeted ecological restoration across high-risk coastal, haor, and Barind regions—the Minister stressed that climate policy must directly integrate with localized livelihood security. In response, UNDP Resident Representative Stefan Rodrigues reaffirmed UNDP's commitment to supporting Bangladesh's national climate pledges and technical frameworks through expanded development partnerships.
