The Election Commission (EC) has officially amended the Election Conduct Rules-2008, finalizing 120 electoral symbols while keeping the controversial 'Boat' symbol suspended. Furthermore, a 'No' vote provision has been formally incorporated for single-candidate constituencies.

The EC issued a gazette notification regarding these sweeping regulatory updates. Under the revised framework,

the commission streamlined candidate disclosures, making certain family income-tax asset details optional in affidavits while legally clarifying that an 'accused' individual strictly refers to someone against whom formal charges have been framed by a court.

Additionally, strict guidelines regarding election agent bank account disclosures have been made mandatory to enhance financial transparency in local and national polls.
