Education Minister Dr. ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milan announcing the one-week ultimatum for zero-pass institutions.

Dr. ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milan, Minister for Education and Primary & Mass Education, has issued a strict directive ordering immediate accountability measures against educational institutions recording zero or alarmingly low pass rates.

In an official social media post released on Sunday afternoon, November 1, 2026, the Education Minister announced a strict one-week deadline for ministry officials to formulate and execute concrete punitive and reformative action plans against failing schools and colleges. The ministry's decisive stance aims to elevate national educational standards and enforce rigorous oversight over institutions with dismal academic outcomes.

The directive follows official examination data showing that 293 educational institutions recorded a zero-percent pass rate in this year's public examinations—a sharp surge of 91 institutions compared to last year's tally of 202. Conversely, only 139 institutions achieved a 100% pass rate. In the national examination tally, a total of 1,240,798 candidates appeared, out of which 646,685 passed, bringing the overall pass rate to 52.12%, with 40,084 students securing GPA-5.
