
The Election Commission (EC) has summoned a crucial "Commission Meeting" to determine schedules and formulate comprehensive strategic plans for upcoming Union Parishad (UP) elections and other local government bodies. The high-level meeting is scheduled for Monday (October 12, 2026) at 10:30 AM at the Election Bhaban in Agargaon.
Confirming the development to media on Sunday (October 11), EC Deputy Secretary Md. Shah Alam stated that the 13th commission meeting will be presided over by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A M M Nasir Uddin, with all election commissioners, senior commission officials, and relevant representatives in attendance.
According to the EC, the primary agenda centers on outlining a phased roadmap for nationwide Union Parishad elections and local government polls. Additionally, the meeting will review administrative and financial delegation for National Identity (NID) wing officials to boost efficiency, assess the status of NID card personalization machinery, fast-track pending smart card print operations, settle arrears, and evaluate expert committee recommendations for new maintenance contracts. The session will also discuss and grant final policy approval for the draft National Election Medal Policy 2025.
