According to police sources, Ibrahim previously served as the joint convener of Ward 33 Jubo Dal before being expelled following the August 5 political transition due to various criminal allegations. Local residents reportedly dubbed him "Tala Ibrahim" due to his practice of locking the premises of targets to extract money. The arrest follows an extortion case filed at Mohammadpur Police Station on December 7, 2025, by a businessman named Zahid Hasan. The statement of claim details an incident on December 5, 2025, in Nabinagar Housing, where Ibrahim and accomplices carrying walkie-talkies confronted the victim, falsely identified themselves as security personnel, accused the victim of business irregularities, and extorted BDT 45,000 in cash alongside a wristwatch before demanding BDT 50 lakh under threats of violence.
