A tragic head-on collision between a passenger bus and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw has claimed the lives of seven people, including women and children, in Mymensingh city. The accident occurred around 1:30 PM on Friday (October 2) in the Gandropa area along the Akua Bypass Road.

According to eyewitnesses and police, a Netrokona-bound passenger bus departing from Mymensingh collided head-on with an oncoming CNG auto-rickshaw upon reaching Gandropa. The impact severely mangled the auto-rickshaw, resulting in the instant death of six people at the scene, including the driver. Another critically injured passenger was rushed to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, where the attending doctor declared them dead upon arrival.

Local residents immediately initiated initial rescue efforts following the crash. Upon receiving the report, units from the Fire Service and local police arrived promptly to lead the rescue operation. Fire Service personnel recovered the bodies, while Kotwali Model Thana Police cleared the wreckage from the highway to restore normal traffic flow.

Mohammad Shibirul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kotwali Model Thana, confirmed the seven fatalities. He stated that police responded swiftly to execute rescue operations, and both the bus and the destroyed auto-rickshaw have been seized. Efforts to identify the deceased are currently underway, and the bodies have been transferred to the Mymensingh Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy and legal procedures. Filing of a case regarding the incident is in progress.
